Camp Tournesol is a company wholly owned by Martine Brouillet. It was renamed in 2007 from ExceLogic Inc. ExceLogic was founded in 1996 as a vehicle for Martine’s diverse endeavors. Camp Tournesol began in 2001 at First United Church in South Mississauga. It was created to fill a void in the region for a quality camp for French immersion and francophone students. From the early years, the commitment was made to employ Francophone and French immersion adult teachers and to offer a high level of spoken French in an environment where students are motivated to speak French.
Camp Tournesol is now well known for offering a nurturing environment conducive to developing a rich French vocabulary and reinforcing to campers that French is not only a language for school but also a language to play, socialize and travel with. With a very high percentage of returning campers, Camp Tournesol brings together students from different schools and different school boards. At its Mississauga campus, Camp Tournesol receives campers from Mississauga, Toronto, Brampton and Georgetown and has grown to over 120 campers each week. Since 2007, it also offers campus in York, since 2008 one in Oakville and since 2010 in Brampton.
Biography
Martine Brouillet
Martine is a francophone born and raised in Montreal. She graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Commerce, specializing in computer science and organizational behavior, following a successful career as a team handball player and coach climbing her way to the provincial and national level. She also served on the board of the Quebec Federation of Team Handball as a treasurer. She worked several years at National Bank of Canada in the treasury department. In 1989, she moved to Toronto and joined a small software developer, ComputeChan Corp. Under Martine’s presidency, the company revenue’s increased six fold. In 1996 Martine successfully engineered the sale of ComputeChan Corp. to a large data firm.
Since then, Martine has dedicated her time to serving several volunteer associations and raising her 3 young children. From 1995 to 1999, Martine was a director of the Women Entrepreneurs of Canada, a not-for-profit organization. She worked on coordinating the development and designing of the WEC web site as well as the completion of the document “WEC: Defining a National Association” which served as the model for the restructuring of the association.
Since 1999, Martine has dedicated her time to making a contribution to the local school as chair of the school council, chair of their fundraising event and by creating a fundraising program in support of the “Hands of Hope” foundation. She is also co-founder of the Mississauga South Chapter of Canadian Parents for French (Ontario) and has sat on several committees with the Peel District School Board on the French immersion program. In 2005, Martine joined the board of the Ontario branch of Canadian Parents for French, and served as their treasurer until the end of her mandate in October 2007.
In 2001, Martine started a French summer day camp in Mississauga which has become her passion. In 2007, French summer day camps were added in York, and in 2008 in Oakville. She is now dedicating her time to developing the Camp Tournesol brand by adding new campus and new products.
