Camp Tournesol

In-Person Day Camps 2021!

To accommodate the new reality of upcoming summer 2021, Camp Tournesol is working hard to adapt its beloved French summer camps to be able to offer In-Person Day Camps in 2021!!

While our enthusiasm and our dedication to your children remain, the structure of the day and week at summer day camp will change as well as some activities.

On this page, you will find some of the “need-to-know” information we are working on, to determine whether or not this is an experience for your child for summer 2021. We wanted to be as upfront as possible to ensure that everyone comes to camp with the correct expectations and attitude to make this an awesome experience despite the safety procedures in place. This page will be updated late February with our final plans.

Day Camp Programs available:

  • French camps for children aged 6 to 12 in French immersion or francophone schools.
  • Prep-to French Bilingual camps for children ages 5 to 6.
  • English Adventure camps with a Learn French component for children ages 7 to 10 who are interested in learning/boosting their French and having fun in the process. There will be a school of wizardry themed week offered at each campus.

Age groups:

Weeks available:

To ensure that we have time to put all the necessary procedures in place at each campus and provide solid training to our staff, we will likely open gradually throughout the summer. More details to come.

Cost: To be determined.

How Camp Will Work

We have built a winning schedule for the week to ensure that children are engaged in positive and rewarding activities while exchanging in French and socializing with their peers in a safe environment.

  • Children will be placed in groups of a maximum of 10 people including the caring counselor that will spend the week with them.
  • Each group will be assigned their own physical space which will act as a bubble for them. Members of other groups will not be permitted to interact or enter that “bubble”.
  • When outdoor space is available, each group will take turns spending time outside.
  • The schedule ensures that children will have mask-on activities where social distancing is not possible, alternating with “mask-off” activities where they can safely play and engage in our activities while six feet apart.
  • During some individual time, children will have their own kit for activities such as bracelet making, worksheets, and reading materials. You will receive a list of items that we will provide and items that you must send with your child.
  • There will be no field trips during the week.

Campuses Available

We are working with several churches to bring our camps to families this summer. We will update the information here as they become confirmed. When a campus is noted as confirmed, registration is open on our system.

Stay tuned for an update late February.

Schedule & Activities

Our fantastic team has prepared a fun schedule of activities for your children. Click here for a sample. For each module, we will develop a variety of activities to ensure that there are not too many repetitive activities from week to week. Children can expect to engage in:

  • Creativity model to develop a song or skit for Friday.
  • Board and card games such as snakes and ladders and Uno.
  • Individual challenge games such as minute to win it and skill and strength challenges.
  • Circle Fun Games such as werewolf, drop it catch it, pow, and much more.
  • Active cooperation modules.
  • Get Moving including dance, yoga, and cardio.
  • Arts and Crafts.
  • Language Module.
  • And MORE!!

Extended care:

One of the important aspects of the guidelines issued by the government in 2020 is that the children be part of a cohort of no more than 10 individuals including the staff and never mix with other cohorts. Should this remain in 2021, it will significantly impact our ability to offer extended care in the model that we normally operate.

  • Before Care: TBD
  • After Care: TBD

Safety guidelines:

We will adhere strictly to the safety guidelines issued by the Ministry of Ontario and will require our hosts to do so as well. Click here for more information.
