French Overnight March Break Camps in Ontario

for French immersion and Francophone students in grades 2 to 6

This is a fun-filled French March break camp in Ontario’s gorgeous Schomberg area at the YMCA Cedar Glen taking place Sunday, March 11th to Friday, March 16th, 2018.

What a fantastic opportunity to experience a Winter camp having fun in the outdoors with our experienced French counsellors! This week will be packed with outdoor activities, crafts, arts, and much more! But most importantly, campers will develop their:

  • autonomy,
  • leadership,
  • self-confidence,
  • all in French!

From Sunday evening to Friday afternoon, campers will spend their days enjoying the wilderness and participating in a variety of activities such as high and low ropes, quidditch, star-gazing, snowshoeing, sledding, shelter building, large group games and initiatives and of course, campfires! Get outdoors in a Winter Wonderland this March break!

Here’s the twist: all counsellors are French and all activities, meals and even the evening campfire will be spent speaking French. Campers will learn fun songs we call “chansons à répondre,” participate in a giant game of animal survival in French and play our “know your word gender” game (one of the hardest parts to master in French).

A UNIQUE and complete week-long French immersion opportunity open to French immersion or francophone students in grades 2 t0 6 !

Overnight Summer Camps For Teens

Situated on 263 acres of breath-taking countryside located on the Oak Ridges Moraine and Ontario GreenBelt, Cedar Glen is the perfect backdrop for an outdoor retreat. The sleeping accommodations are quaint wooden lodges adjacent to the Main Lodge. Each room has a private washroom and shower.

The Fun:

Here is an overview of the fun activities in store for the week

Language-rich activities:

We work to develop and enrich language skills, for example:

  • By engaging children in authentic tasks during games like the much loved Running Pictionnary, where teams of kids must guess the meaning of a picture drawn by a member of their group before running to get their next clue;
  • By supporting children’s curiosity in unstructured play time, when kids are encouraged to explore, interact, and play with language;
  • By focusing on communicative language during partner interview games like Silent Interview, where kids share three things about themselves without words and their partner tries to explain to introduce them to the group.

Active Living

The benefits of daily vigorous physical activity are well-known. This March, kids will get active and:

  • Learn how to snowshoe;
  • Play a giant game of animal survival;
  • Spend an active week having fun in the outdoors.

Personal and Character Growth:

In this community of French Language Learners your child will:

  • Make friends who are also on a journey of language learning. Celebrating an epic sled ride down a snow-covered hill or quietly appreciating the winter starscape are two experiences sure to inspire and bring kids together;
  • Develop leadership skills by contributing positively to a community of learners;
  • Be challenged by new situations in a cooperative environment. .

Nature discovery

Nature connection allows us to slow down and take stock. Kids will have a chance to learn primitive skills such as:

  • How to build a campfire in winter;
  • How to build various types of shelter;
  • Discover bird language, animal tracks, and other signs of winter wildlife on a nature walk!

….All while having a great time!

  • a 5 night and 6 day camp.
  • all meals and snacks for the duration of the camp.
  • all accommodation and activities.
  • a Tournesol t-shirt
  • Campers are responsible for their clothes and personal expenses.

There will be  pick up locations in the GTA for a round-trip fee of $20.00 or one-way fee of $15. Please note that bus stops and times are subject to sufficient registration at each stop. The bus times are as follows:
