Partial Overnight French Language Summer Camp

for French immersion and Francophone students

Les Intrépides-En-Route

Unique to Camp Tournesol, this is a short “away from home” trip that gives campers a taste of adventure and independence… all in French.

French immersion or Francophone students in grades 2 to 7 are all welcome.

This shortened French immersion program is perfect for students who like discovering new places and making new friends, but are not yet ready for the full overnight experience.

Daily recap: Click here for last year’s daily update from our overnight camps!

We offer 2 options:

  • 2+3: 2 days at day camp plus 3 days at an overnight camp;
  • 1+4: 1 day at day camp and 4 days at an overnight camp.

The partial week formula is unique to Camp Tournesol. Unlike most French camps, we allow campers to come for a day or two to one of our day French campuses to get comfortable with the staff and the other campers. Our Tournesol buses then visit each French campus (on Tuesday or Wednesday) to pick up the campers and bring them to our destinations.

Campers are not guaranteed to be back on time on Friday to make the daily bus service so please plan accordingly. For all of our trips, transportation to the destination is included in the fee but daily transportation to the day camp is not included..

Please note that there must be 4 campers at a day campus to allow pick up.

During these trips, all meals and activities are included, both at the day camp (provided by Taste Culinary – check out the menu here) and at the destination.

There is a maximum of 45 campers on each trip and a minimum of 20 is required.

Check out dates and rates for this program in the table below.  For information on our discounts and FAQ check our pricing camp page.

Overnight Summer Camps For Teens

The Fun:

During our stay at this French overnight camp, we will:

  • challenge ourselves on the low ropes and high ropes challenge course;
  • try our hand at archery;
  • splash in one of the 2 large pools on site;
  • partake in a HUGE game of animal survival in one of the best courses we have seen anywhere;
  • rock wall climbing;
  • of course, enjoy an awesome campfire with sing-a-long French songs and folk tales;
  • make traditional friendship bracelets;
  • do team building exercises in a giant maze;
  • build a shelter/fort;
  • play Running Pictionary / gaga ball / soccer / volleyball and much more!

Sadly, the fun comes to an end mid-afternoon Friday. Tired but filled with new memories, having learned new skills and built new friendships.

(1 day at one of our day camps and 4 days/3 nights away)

The Stay:

This year, our 1+4 trip will head to the beautiful region of Niagara. We will stay at the conveniently located HI-hostel Niagara, a cosy yet expertly run hostel where our group will enjoy our own separate floor. The group will also spend a night at historic Fort St. George where they will practice drills and experience the daily life of a soldier from 1812! Don’t worry though, heated barracks and modern washrooms are still available.

The Fun:

The activities around Niagara falls include:

  • A visit to the butterfly conservatory within the botanical gardens
  • A Journey Under the Falls
  • A trip on the Aero car, high above the Niagara whirlpool
  • A visit to the Laura Secord homestead
  • A visit to the Mackenzie Printery
  • At Fort St. George, the campers will partake in several workshops including learning about artillery, performing drills and creating music using period instruments

On Friday around lunchtime, the group will leave the grounds already planning their trip for the next year! This promises to be one of the highlights of your child’s summer!

“That was awesome. I give that camp 10 stars out of 10 stars. It was fun hanging out with people that aren’t related to you. Can I go again next year? The food was pretty good as well.”

“The staff at camp Tournesol (counsellors and admin staff) are fantastic – helpful and friendly. I felt my son was in good hands for his first overnight trip.”

“The Cedar Glen trip was my daughters first experience away from home and at a french speaking camp. The Councillors were great and she loved all of the activities that were offered during her stay. It was a great learning experience for her and she was so exhausted by the end of each day that she didn’t even miss technology.”
